Create three fabulous felted scarves in three wonderful days. Join this intensive but very fun class and learn not only to use the method of dry dye powder low immersion dyeing to dye the merino roving for the amazing Airey Fairy Scarf, but also how to lay out and felt this fascinating wrap.
On the other two days you will learn to learn to felt, full and dye fine merino needle punch batts and then how to use two very different shape resist techniques to make the fabulous Bark Scarf and Bodacious Bubble Boa. Beginners are welcome!

Imagine your felt – brilliantly resist and shibori dyed, stitched and quilted with thread; silk, linen, cotton, shiny and dull; embellished with natural objects and prized treasures from your bead drawers and imagination. All is possible in this class which will guide you through felting merino needle punch batts into the marvelous world of dry powder dyeing, creating surface shapes and color with a thousand ways of resist dyeing and putting together your dyed felt pieces into a story, thoughtfully designed with stitching, quilting and beading. We will work with several formats – the art felt, the book cover and small bags.

E-Mail: Sievers@itol.com We'll spend the first day resist dyeing dozens of beautiful pieces of felted wool, and then with those fabulous pieces of felt, we will spend a day each, designing, beading, stitching, quilting and adding the finishing touches to: Bodacious Brooches, Bountiful Book Covers, Beautiful Stitch/Quilted Amulet Bags. Our last morning will be spend learning how to frame a piece of felt art.

THE BRILLIANT BARK SCARF. SouthEastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) Ag Center, Asheville, NC www.saffsite.org The Brilliant Bark Scarf is a visual delight with beautiful, hand dyed under color and intense over-dyed patterns. As an added bonus the resist shaping creates an interesting and unique texture. No one else will have one like it!
So come join us and learn new skills as well as creating a new scarf. This full day class will start with the participants learning how to use the dry powder dyeing process to dye their own fine merino needle punch batt. Then learn how to finish felting the batt and create the design with traditional Japanese Mokume resist stitching on the scarf. We will over-dye the scarf in an intense resist dye bath, undo the stitches and voila! The most beautiful scarf in the world! And it is yours!

Stitch / Bead / Bind – A HandFelted book SouthEastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) Ag Center, Asheville, NC www.saffsite.org Every felt maker has a small stash of beautifully felted and dyed felt hidden somewhere. Here’s a great class where you can turn your felt into a fabulous felt covered book. Students will learn to stitch and bead the felt and then learn the steps to create a stiff cover, how to tear paper for the pages and stitch the book together!
There will be a lot of hand sewing. If you don’t have any felt, pieces will be able for purchase prior to the class.
