The Decorative Page is the title page of a memory book, those ideas, marks and shapes now enrobed in the shining beading from my collections of glass beads. Memories in our minds hardly ever match the actual event, but are embellished with the rest of our life stories. This felted page is dedicated to my adopted mother, beloved friend and mentor, Millie Voorhees, who will always be the brilliant shiny illustration of my life and work.

| The Page of Most of the Words (2008) 7" x 9" (Framed in custom build wood shadowbox (15" x 17") mounted on g) Collection of Kelli Hunnicutt merino wool, sabreset dyes, glass and ceramic beads, pine cone sections, cotton and linen thread.
Hand felted, resist dyed.stitched and glued construction
The resist dye created surface of this piece was begging for an aphabet of letters but there wasn't room for all the letters. So the title refers to most of the words we know minus those with the missing letters. I thought of this piece as a sampler, referencing the beautiful embroidered samplers of the last two centuries.

| Two Pages from A Book of Leaves (2007) 7" x 9" (framed in custom made wood shadowbox ( 15" x 17")) Collection of Andy and Lucy Archie merino wool, sabreset dyes, glass beads, pine cone leaves, linen and cotton thread.
Hand felted, resist dyed, stitched, beaded and glued construction.
Two Pages from a Book of Leaves is an exploration of the repeated shape of my favorite eucalyptus leaf, brought back from Australia. The beads – the rare rain beading up on the oily surface, the stitches – the cracks and markings left by time and insects. The title word, Leaves, is a reference to the other word for page.
The Book of Leaves is a memory book, the leaves arranged on the page in the format we expect of the printed page, yet marked with stitches and beads in the way I can best represent the memory of that page of my travels. The fragrant smell of pine cones, collected in North Carolina, is my local reference to the beauty and memory of the smell of trees.

Red Eucalyptus Page is from an imaginary book, a memory book of remembered images and color from my travels in Australia in 2006. The hand felted and resist dyed merino was made there in my workshops as I worked along side the students and smelled the rich, tangy eucalyptus air and watched the sun change the shapes on the red and brown hills.

| Index (2007) 7" x 9" (framed in custom built wood shadowbox (15" x 17") mounted on g) $400 Available for purchase merino wool, sabreset dyes, glass beads, copper medallions, linen and cotton thread.
hand felted, resist dyed, beaded and stitched construction.
This piece, the first of the book page felts, was started during my teaching tour of Australia in fall of 2006. The lower shapes were created with eucalyptus leaves as the resist block. The upper resist marks were made with punched steel plates. The rich brown dye is one of my favorite colors and also is an identifying color of Australia.
This page is called Index because the eucalyptus leaves create finger-like shapes that could be the index finger, searching the book for a particular passage. The Index is the last section of a book, used to quickly find topics and references, much as Australia is the oldest land mass, and gifts me as my source of color, shape, marks and inspiration.

The tools of resist dyeing hand felted wool are often strange household objects. The leaf shapes that form the center of this piece were created from the marks of hair clips. They wanted to be small, bristled cactus leaves, forming a story of protection for the precious pearls...
